Which beach is the best
Here in Cyprus we pride ourselves on
the cleanliness and safety of our
beaches. All the beaches in the
Paphos area are municipal even those
that appear to be attached to hotels.
This means that if you like the look of
any of the beaches in the area you can
grab your towel and feel free to lounge
all day and take advantage of the hotel
facilities (drinks and sun loungers).
A little further up the coast towards
Coral Bay you will find a few small
secluded beaches, these however, tend to
have a rocky outcrop which can make it
difficult to get access to the water,
but if sun bathing is your thing these
are ideal.
Coral Bay has one of the nicest
easily accessible beaches in the area.
Just a 15 minute bus ride away and is
ideal for children as the water is
shallow for quiet a way. This
beach has two cafe bars, showers,
toilets, mini market and sun loungers
and parasols and watersports activities
for those who want a bit more from their
time at the beach.
Just a few minutes up the coast to
the Coral Bay Hotel and Corallia Beach
Hotel
there is another small beach in a cove.
This is perfect for very young children
as
there is very little sea movement.
The large rock a meters off the beach
gives a home to small fish, urchins and
various other marine life. This
gives the older children and adult
adventurers who wish to dip in a bit
further.
For those who are a bit adventurous
and like to take in a bit of the local
scenery and make a full day trip out the
Akamas peninsular has several beaches on
offer.
The first is White River beach, this is
a small pebbly cove that has some great
underwater topography, so much so that
you will often see divers coming and
going. They do keep to themselves
and so a relaxing peaceful day can be
had by all wishing to have some quiet
time. Alternatively, you can don
your snorkelling gear and follow them
round and catch a glimpse of what they
can see. You can reach this beach in
an ordinary car. There is also a
restaurant close by and toilet
facilities.
Please be careful when driving to
this beach as there tend to be horses
roaming along the track, they are
quite friendly but of course if they get
spooked they can cause damage to your
vehicle.
The next beach is a few minutes
further along the same road and not
normally a place that people stop at to
take in the sun. It is a long
stretch of beach and rocky points.
The surf here can sometimes get a bit
high
hence the reason why it is not so
popular with sun bathers and swimmers.
Lara Bay is but a few miles further
up the coast along this road followed
shortly afterwards by Lara Beach.
Most people visit these beaches not to
swim or sun bathe but to catch sight of
a turtle or two. Many of the jeep
safari trips head this way and are very
informative
about the endangered
Green and Loggerhead turtles that nest on the beaches. If you do visit these beaches without a
guide please take note of the beach
rules. This could mean the
difference between the continuance or
the extinction of these rare and
beautiful creatures.
Polis and Latchi
These beaches are situated on the
North coast of Cyprus just on the other
side of the Akamas Peninsular. Not
far from the Baths of Aphrodite they are
some of the quietest, sandiest beaches
in the area.
Just a 20 minute drive from Kato Paphos
this not only leads to a great day out
but allows you to see the beautiful
countryside along your way. A few
miles passed Polis there is a long beach
that is practically deserted.
Running along side the road,
