Whether you visit the mountains of
Cyprus during your holiday or whether you
stay there for the duration you cannot
fail to be impressed by your
surroundings.
Troodos is the largest of the Cypriot
mountain ranges and is the home of Mount
Olympus, which stands at 1952m.
The mountains stretch across most of
western Cyprus and offer a cooler pine
scented climate for walking during the
summer or powering down the slopes on
skis or snowboards during the winter.
These mountain ranges also have
numerous churches, monasteries and quiet
villages for you to take in. The
nine Byzantine churches are counted as
part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites
and well worth taking in even if it is
not normally "your thing".
Skiing has been a big attraction for
tourists since the sometime in 1934,
when the first Mountaineering Club was
formed. The Cyprus Ski Club was
formed shortly after World War II in
1947, introducing the first of 4 ski
lifts to the area. Accommodation
in the area is reasonable and ample so
don't delay in booking your time away.
If you have never ski-ed before don't
worry as there are three good ski
schools operating in the area.
